Why I built this site about water feature ideas

My name is Bob Sayers. I'm the owner and webmaster of this site 'Water features guide' which I started in early 2005.

The theme arose when my wife Marion and I purchased a new home after a period of home rental. The last home we owned was on an acre of natural bushland and we were happy to leave it that way. But our new home in Warranwood (outer suburb of Melbourne, Australia) had only a small and barren backyard which is in shade for much of the year. I immediately pictured a fern garden incorporating some water feature ideas I'd been thinking about.

Although I have previous experience (see below) I knew that I needed to update my knowledge as I developed my water features design. There are now so many more technological advanced products, materials and systems available. At the same time I was searching for a theme for a website that might hold strong interest for other web surfers.

...So why not write some pages answering the questions I was now posing for myself -

• how do I select the materials and designs for a garden pond?
• how do I build a waterfall?
• can I capture rainwater from my roof?
• and how can I do this without spending a lot of money?

You can see my own progress at backyard water feature. Some of my past experience is relevant and helped me form the right questions to ask. For some years I operated a retail plants nursery where we sold preformed ponds and pond plants. I also assisted my brother Don with the design and construction of a number of landscaping projects. That experience was some years ago and when I started researching water features design I discovered there are many fantastic products that make it so much easier for us to have our own outstanding water garden.

On this site I describe many of these water feature ideas and products.

How I Built this Site

Following numerous recommendations from many others I chose to use the system known as Site-Build-It!

What I like most is that SBI:
